Bonkers Episode Guide

Life used to be golden for Bonkers D. Bobcat. Back in his Raw Toonage days, the zany bobcat was a cartoon star, appearing in regular "Here's Bonkers" segments with sidekick Jitters A. Dogg, lovely Fawn Deer, and arch-enemy Grumbles Grizzly. Bonkers was a Toon Town icon, but fame is a fickle beast. By the time Bonkers moved from Raw Toonage supporting segments to his own, self-titled series, the former star was out of work.

The new Bonkers! series took a page from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, teaming Bonkers with "real-life" police officers to solve crimes in Tinseltown. Starting as a down-on-his-luck "former 'toon star," Bonkers turned his life around by inadvertently saving the life of world-renowned cartoon actor Donald Duck.

Note the two different looks in this series for Bonkers D. Bobcat. In the earlier made Miranda Wright episodes- produced by Duane Capizzi and Robert Hathcock- Bonkers is on model for the look from the Raw Toonage series. Because of overseas production problems, Disney was not happy with these episodes and fired the Capizzi/Hathcock team part way through the series. Of the 65 episodes slated to be produced, only 19 were salvageable and aired. Nine episodes began airing in February 1993 as a preview to the fall syndicated series, with the rest tacked on to the end of the syndication package.

The show was taken over by Robert Taylor, who made 42 episodes. He trew out the original premise and characters, replacing Miranda Wright with Lucky Piquel. Robert Taylor completely redesigned the character and the back story. Bonkers now has skinnier ears, two black spots on each his tufts, black Tigger-like stripes on his tail, and a different uniform. The episode New Partners On The Block was an attempt to bridge the gap between the two somewhat contradictory storylines.
