Casper, The Friendly Ghost Theatrical Cartoon Series Logo
Originally developed by Joe Oriolo and Seymour Reit as the concept for a childrens book, Casper was sold to Paramount in the early 1940's. Casper was a child ghost who wanted to make friends, not scare people. His first cartoon was a Noveltoon titled The Friendly Ghost (1945). Casper proved popular, and in 1950, got his own series. Casper's model was a bit thinner than his Noveltoons self. The series ended in 1959.

Along with the rest of the Famous Studios cartoons, Casper was sold to U.M.&M. T.V. Corp. in 1956. In 1963, new shorts were made specifically for television as The New Casper Cartoon Show and the original theatrical shorts were aired in syndication as Harveytoons.
