Independent film maker and animation pioneer Lotte Reiniger was best known for her silhouette films. She is generally credited with producing the first feature length animated film, Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed (The Adventures of Prince Achmed). After she left Germany in 1936 (fleeing from the Nazis), she discovered that no other country would give them permanent visas. After hopping from France (where she lived with Jean Renoir for a while) to Italy, to various other countries, she settled with her husband Carl Koch in the United Kingdom. While there, they formed the short lived Primrose Productions.
