While not the most prolific of Disney characters, Mickey Mouse is surely the most famous. As Disney himself was fond of saying, "It all started with a mouse." Originally to be named "Mortimer Mouse", Walt's wife Lillian thought the name was too "sissified" and suggested Mickey as an alternative.
