While not the most prolific of Disney characters, Mickey Mouse is surely the most famous. As Disney himself was fond of saying, "It all started with a mouse." Originally to be named "Mortimer Mouse", Walt's wife Lillian thought the name was too "sissified" and suggested Mickey as an alternative. With over one hundred cartoons to his credit, Mickey has seen it all. Mickey was there at the beginning of sound cartoons. He has seen black and white and color film stocks. Her has even been married, but that was only in a dream.
Mickey's most recent short was over fifteen years ago, in 1995. Since that time, he seems content to be a corporate symbol rather than an animation star.
