Family animation producer, the studio was founded by Richard Rich, previously an animator at Disney. Following the release of The King And I, to avoid bankruptcy, Rich Animation Studios was taken over by Indian animation studio Crest Animation Studios Ltd. and the new entity renamed RichCrest Animation Studios.
In February 2007, the studio was renamed to Crest Animation Productions.
