With it's animation reaching back as far as 1955, Boyana Film Studios opened it's film production complex in 1962. During the communism years (1945-1989), the studio produced nearly 600 feature films with production peaking at around 25 features annually in the 1980s. In 2005, California-based Nu Image Studios and Millennium Film bought the studio. By February 2007, the name was changed to Nu Boyana Film Studios.
