But by the mid-1980s, the company's fortunes declined somewhat after the profitability of Saturday morning cartoons was eclipsed by weekday afternoon syndication. The company was purchased by Ted Turner, mainly for it's catalog to fill the millionaires fledgling Cartoon Network. Turner was eventually purchased by Time Warner, and Hanna-Barbera was suddenly owned by their former rival. With William Hanna's death in 2001, the studio became a subsidy Warner Bros. Animation in name, but was dissolved as a production entity in reality. Currently, Hanna-Barbera is just a name slapped on to productions of the old studios' classic works.
