Mutt and Jeff Films Studio Directory
After the success of the comic strip and subsequent stage show, Al Christie began churning out one-reel live-action Mutt and Jeff comedy shorts for the Nestor Film Company (first in Bayonne New Jersey, and later in Hollywood California). The live-action silent films were produced between 1911 and about 1913. Animation pioneers Charles Bowers and Raoul Barré licensed the production of Mutt and Jeff shorts from Bud Fisher and began the animated series in 1916. They would animate more than 300 shorts in one of the longest theatrical animated series ever.
