In a word: bad.

XXI - 21 - Jack and the... Dragon
My review of this ep can be summed up in one word:
Bad.
The "Fantastic Voyage" through the dragon's guts was bizarrely inventive, true. Some fans enjoyed the Dragon's-Lair and Space-Ace jokes quite a bit. And every series needs change-of-pace episodes, especially as serious a show as Samurai Jack.
However, to me this ep was not so much a change of pace as a complete train wreck. The story, characters, and even color palette are unrelentingly unpleasant and unfunny. The timing of this ep hurt it too--it was a bad choice to start the new season. If Cartoon Network had shown it after some weeks of serious, grim, action-filled premiere eps... well, I still wouldn't have liked it. (As an April-Fool's show it might have made a little more sense.)
In my purely personal opinion, if Genndy & Co. want to go in this direction, they should do it with a different show. To go in that way now runs counter to the whole set-up they were at such pains to create. Why have beautiful art and music, and a strong, noble, impressive main character, if they're going to do the Mel Brooks thing?
Plus, I think it would be a shame. SJ's such a unique show, while gross-out humor right now is everywhere. (Not Mel Brooks' caliber of humor, granted, but still.) Treating SJ that way is like using a silk brocade as a rug in a mudroom.
Against, just my personal opinion.
