Cartoon Production Information:
A Mexican folk art-inspired animated comedy with a spaghetti Western twist. A teenage boy, Manny Rivera (El Tigre), must choose to become a great superhero, like his father, Rodolfo, or a feared supervillain, like his grandfather. Manny struggles with the daily choice of which superpower he will master, because being good is good... but being bad is fun!
This series is scheduled to run for 13 30-minute episodes, each consisting of two cartoons.
The series came about partly because its creators, Jorge R. Gutierrez and Sandra Equihua, had looked in vain for a Hispanic cartoon show created by Hispanics. "I wanted to talk to all the other Latino creators to hear about their experiences, but I couldn't find any," Gutierrez said. "Why don't we try to pitch a cartoon about our lives?" Gutierrez and Equihua asked themselves. "Let's look at everything we love in movies and art and literature, everything we really like from Latin America, specifically from Mexico... where it's about their families and where they're from, with really personal stories."
The March 3, 2007 premiere of this series was Nickelodeon's best for a Saturday-morning series, beating the July 1999 debut of "SpongeBob SquarePants."
Alternate title of episode: "Mustache Kid."
