Cartoon Production Information:
Originally, Mammy Two-Shoes spells out: "O-U-W-T," at the end, but in T.V. versions, she spells it correctly: "O-U-T."
Rudolf Ising is incorrectly credited as director (he was the producer); the true directors, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, are not listed in the credits.
This cartoon is the first appearance of Tom (called Jasper here) and Jerry (here named Jinx, though not named onscreen). This is also the first full teaming of Hanna and Barbera.
This was to be an MGM cartoon just like any other. However, the film's immense success, and the pressure from distributors for more cat-and-mouse stories, resulted in the development of the Tom and Jerry series.
"Jasper" has a distinctly more tabby appearance than Tom later would, while the mouse already has the features that we recognize as Jerry (in fact, he would be the character who, over the years, changed least).
