Cartoon Production Information:
Up to its time, this was the seventh highest-grossing animated film at the Japanese box office.
This was the first Studio Ghibli feature picked up by Buena Vista for U.S. distribution. An English dub was made in 1997. It was not put into a broad theatrical release, but instead was shown at selected film festivals. The films first public showing in English was at the Seattle International Film Festival on May 23, 1998.
Following the limited festival release, the home video release occured late 1998. The film became one of the best-selling anime videos in America (selling over a million copies), and far outdoing the previous anime champ "Akira."
An English dub done before the U.S. dub was made by Carl Macek's Streamline Pictures for in-flight screenings on JAL trans-Pacific flights. This was included on a Japanese laser disc, but was not released in the U.S.
Title translates as "The Witch's Express Mail."
