Popeye the Sailor Theatrical Series -Fleischer Studios
Popeye was originally voiced by William "Billy" Costello, also known as "Red Pepper Sam." When Costello's drinking became a problem he was replaced by former in-betweener animator Jack Mercer. Olive Oyl was voiced by a number of actresses, the most notable of which was Mae Questel, who also voiced Betty Boop. Questel eventually took over the part completely until the Flesichers took their studio to Florida in 1938. Questel did not want to move to Florida, so Margie Hines took over voicing Olive Oyl through the end of Fleischer Studios. William Pennell was the first man to voice the Bluto character. Gus Wickie took over in 1935, and voiced Bluto until his death in 1938. Several voice actors, among them Pinto Colvig succeeded Gus Wickie as the voice of Bluto.
