Pat Sullivan Cartoons Studio Directories (1916-1928)

IFS fell victim to the budget axe on "Black Monday"- July 6, 1918. Rather than move over to Bray Studios like most of his colleagues, Sullivan opened his own studio with a series called "Sammie Johnsin", based on Sambo and his Funny Noses by William F. Marriner, strip on which he had worked in his newspaper days.

Sullivan's most lasting and important character is without a doubt, Felix The Cat. What is in doubt is who created Felix. While Sullivan was the producer and no question OK-ed the character, most historians agree that his animator Otto Messmer actually created the character. But who came up with the germ of the idea, the Black Cat himself? We will never know for sure.

By 1930, Felix's popularity had largely waned. The cat was eclipsed by Walt Disney's mouse, partially due to better stories, and partially due to sound. Felix did not make the jump to talkies until 1933, the same year Sullivan died.
