Alternate Studio Title: Ladislaw Starewicz Studios

Founded by Aleksandr Aleksejevich Khanzhonkov, this was a groundbreaking Russian studio. They produced Defence of Sevastopol, Russia's first feature film. In animation,Khanzhonkov produced many of Ladislaw Starewicz' early puppet animation.

When the Russian Revolution arrived, Khanzhonkov left Russia for Constantinople and Vienna. By 1923, he returned and was appointed director of the new soviet studio Proletkino. His career in Soviet Union ruined down in 1926: he was forced to abdicate after a corruption scandal struck Proletkino, and never worked in cinema anymore.
