Cartoon Synopsis:
It is 1787. Sirius, a scholar and noted astrologer, is convinced that there are inhabitants on the moon and that, based on ancient books, they possess the secret of immortality.
He asks his eccentric but reckless cousin, Baron Munchausen, to return there to retrieve the precious secret in exchange for his immense fortune.
Spurrred more by an adventurous spirit than by greed, the Baron accepts. He charters a superb three-masted ship that he equips with immense hot-air balloons.
Flanked by his faithful companions, he heads toward the moon and its inhabitants, the Selenites. They land on inhospitable ground.
While exploring an immense crater, they fall into an underground lake, where ferocious animals prepare to devour them.
They finally are saved by a huge flying hippocampus, who lets them off safely in a clearing and lets them know that they have indeed come to the Kingdom of the Selenites. They are received by the King, surrounded by the dignitaries of the kingdom, the elite, the immortals.
A big party is being held in their honor when Vertprés, little green men aboard their flying saucers, attack the Selenites. The green men also want to learn the secret of their immortality.
A furious battle takes place. Thanks to the valor of Baron Munchausen and his companions, the enemy must beat a retreat. Nevertheless, Trivert, the chief of the attackers, kidnaps the King, the Queen and all the dignitaries. After an eager fight, the hostages regain liberty. The King gives each Earthling, as a token of recognition, a talisman of life...
It is 1987. Two centuries have passed. Thanks to the talismen, Sirius and Munchausen are still alive. But they bitterly contemplate around them a universe of skyscrapers, noisy flying vehicles and pollution.
One sighs to the other: "Ah, if we could do it over again!..."
