Cartoon Synopsis:
We open on frontier Tennessee and the crib of legendary coonskin-capper Davy Crewcut (a parody of Davy Crockett), a hardy pioneer youngster who loves to shoot at three months. As time goes on, Davy grows to be "as big as an ox and almost as smart." Still, he pursues his favorite prey. One day, Davy pursues a bear who's fed up with being the victim of the young man's musket practice, and he tells him, "Why don't you shoot yourself a- a- woodpecker." It's then that Davy sets his sites on one Woody Woodpecker. Woe the day. Immediately, Woody offers Davy a light for his powder horn, and the pitiful pioneer is hurled into the "wild blue yonder." In the fort are assorted cannons in many sizes, ranging from large to larger. Woody uses each, in a variety of ways, to blast poor Davy into the clouds, into walls, into the ground and just plain blast him. Period. Woody's most lighthearted prank is to replace Davy's well-known coonskin cap with a skunk, which promptly gives the pioneer an aromatic blast. In the end, Davy is soundly beaten. He meets up once again with the bear, who asks, "Howdy, Davy. Caught yourself a woodpecker yet?" "To heck with woodpecker. I'm gettin' myself a bear," Davy replies, while Woody contentedly plays with a yo-yo nearby.
