Cartoon Summary:

The old lady who lives in a shoe has a bit of trouble with her gaggle of children. The old woman feeds her kids for breakfast while the cat laps up the spillage on the floor under the table. They won't eat their porridge, won't brush their teeth or comb their hair. "For wasting your bread, it's off to bed!" yells the old woman, who ties ropes to her rocking chair to accommodate all the kids at once! As soon as their mother's in bed, they launch a wild party, playing musical instruments and doing a swinging rendition of Smiley Burnette's classic "Mama Don't Allow No Music Playing Round Here." They then have a massive pillow fight until the old woman wakes up. The threat of castor oil for the kids- which turns out to be a good belt of cider for Mom- puts things right.

Far from the most ornate of the Color Classics, but far-and-away my favorite. From the unruly kids to the toe-tapping music, to the 3-D scene of the shoe, to the end with Mom taking a nip, this is what the Fleischers did best, and it was something no other...  (read more)

This short starts out as if it were a straight forward telling of the nursery rhyme story, but includes many cartoon gag situations that the Fleischer Studios were famous for. Most notibly is the first use of the teeth brushing in the bathroom mirror gag,...  (read more)
