The Loch Ness Kelpie Story Detail
This is the story of Scotland's Loch Ness Kelpie - a shape-shifting water horse that terrorizes the people who fish in the loch. Because of the Kelpie, Ewan and his young sister are forbidden to go to near the loch. They lost their father when the Kelpie lured him onto its back and took him away to perish in the depths of the loch. One day, when Ewan's mother uses the power of the rowan berry to help heal a wound, Ewan has an idea. He makes a fishing pole from the branch of a rowan tree and proceeds to the loch to take on the Kelpie. When Ewan's mother discovers where he has gone, she rushes to help him. With the help of the the rowan tree, they resist the lure of the Kelpie. Ewan manages to remove the bridle from the Kelpie and flings it over a nearby rowan tree, therefore stealing its magic and power. The Kelpie can no longer haunt the people near the loch. It is left to simply swim back and forth in the loch forever.
