In a small village- so forgotten that you won't expect Santa to arrive until June- lives Gurin the gome. He's truly a nice little guy, but he has one large weakness. He can't help himself from being a menace. Although he gets caught red-handed now and then, and repeatedly promises to take a hold of himself, he continues his practical jokes.
But then comes his punishment - he wakes up one morning with a foxtail. Gurin, who always laughed at others, now gets to experience how it feels to be laughed at. He tries to get rid of the tail, but in vain.
In the capital, widow Snubworth-Gland and her female friends hear of the gorgeous foxtail, which is to be found in a small village, where the temperature can get so low that the stars tremble with cold. On the Beverly Hills of Oslo, the girlfriends have competed for years, about having the most magnificent foxtail. The widow realises the excellent opportunity to end the competition, once and for all, by capturing the gnome's tail. She tries to engage private eye Sonny Duckworth to find the foxtail, but Sonny won't do it. He realises that it could come to fatal consequences for the gnome, so he and Lambert chooses to trace Gurin on their own, and to warn him of the threatening danger.
But the widow won't be restrained that easy. She follows Sonny and Lambert on their way to Theodor Rimspoke, where they hope to find help in finding Gurin. And help they get, through Rimspoke's special construction: a foxtail detector. A wild hunt begins, but we won't reveal too much by telling you it has a happy ending. And it turns out that the goxtail can be of great use when the big cold strikes....
