Freudian Field Day!

THe first sequence of the 'toon has Bimbo and KoKo doing various experiments in their laboratory, with some great sight gags (KoKo drinks a potion and momentarily disintegrates into a skeleton!), including a blackface "Mammy" joke in Al Jolson style. The brilliance really begins when, after ogling Betty as she showers on a nearby penthouse roof KoKo and Bombo are unable to prevent a hulking Frenkenstein-type ghoul from emerging from their lab and crossing the space to Betty's roof. He's a pure emanation of their libidinous desires, but Betty dispatches him with a puff of her perfume, transforming him into a dancing pansy. The jazz soundtrack the accompanies the monster's attack is extraordinary, and the animation keeps careful time to the rhythm while the action of the characters adds to the percussion of the music. Subtle, subtle crafting here, and one of my favorite 'toons.
