BCDB: Cartoon Reviews: I'm Afraid To Go Home In The Dark

This is one of those hybrid cartoons of the early sound era that looks very much like the Inkwell Imps and Out of the Inkwell series, with a dog character that resembles Fitz from those series. It's midnight, and Fitz, wearing a derby leaves a house,(or is it a Speak easy?), bidding good night. On the way home, he is frightened by a number of weird things happening at night, and starts whistling the title song to keep his cool. Two owls are in a tree. One makes "hoos." The other one says, "It hurts me to 'hoo'." Fitz' own shadow frightens him, at one time holds him to the ground like glue. The shadow reaches up grabs his nose, tossing it from side to side, as it transforms into the bouncing ball. For the repeated chorus, there is a topical reference to the depression: "It's easy to be happy when Wall Street's on a spirt, the guy who is happy is the guy who can sing although he's loosing his shirt."
