One of the first cartoons I remember seeing. Mr. Spider is malevolent in his designs, although in the real world, the spiders are even MORE cunning in their work. Good animation, and a prizefighting fly. Goofy fun.

This is a very cute cartoon, but the spider seems kinda skeerry! He twirls his legs around to hit Mr. Fly and has a way of talking that should have made the flies suspicious! That spider web spool on his back is pretty strange too! What was this guy smokin' when he made up this cartoon anyway? Still I like it !

Spend a Night in the Cobweb Hotel? Not me!

This almost Hitchcockian cartoon is both wonderful in terms of animation execution, and grotesque with it's ugly
spider manager. Although a good idea, the spider's character does not seem truly evil or menacing. He is not given
enough character development to make him anything more than he is, and ugly spider.
FOr this reason, it seems odd that the newlywed flies would go into the converted
roll top desk knowing that the old spider is running the place and knowing full well that spider's trap and eat flies.
Perhaps is the spider were masquerading as another sort of insect, and then revelas himself as a spider ready for the kill, the element of surprise would be greater, and the attack more strongly motivated. This battle sequence seems loosly influenced by the early Disney SILLY SYMPHONY, "Spiders and Flies."

The Cobweb Hotel is a mini horror film with some genuinely nasty moments. An excellent Fliecher Bros cartoon which is still occaisionally seen in both it's black and white and more rare colour versions. A real classic
