BCDB: Cartoon Reviews: The Constable

In this, the second of the series, Gabby is a cop on the beat. There has been a wave of nighttime pig stealing from the mayor's back yard. Gabby decides to go undercover and disguises himself as a pig.
A burly bully forces Snitch, the Spy to steal the pigs, and this time he picks Gabby as the next victim. Gabby waits until he is placed on the plater about to have an apple stuffed into his mouth when he calls for the arrest. He switches places with Snitch, wearing Snitche's clothes, and Snitch is in the pig costume, frighten from being caught. The bully is sharpening his carving knife, saying "Stolen pigs is the sweetest ones." Gabby is about to serve Snitch as the proxy pig, when his conscience gets to him, "He may be married and have kids. Millions of kids." Gabby turns around and arrests the bully. (Why he didn't arrest him earlier is not clear.) But the bully throws his knife, pinning Gabby to the swinging kitchen door. Snitch manages to send a big pot of boiling soup hurling at the bull, pot and all--stopping him for good.
For his assitance in the caper, Gabby makes Snitch a Deputy. Snithch stands proudly at attention with chest thrust high. As Gabby pins on the badge, a pig squeals and wriggles out from under Snitche's coat. Caught with the goods, he splits, leaving Gabby to scream, Halt in the name of the law...."
This is one of the few cartoons in the series where Gabby is competent at something and actually
accomplishes a task without making a shambles. So you see, they slipped up this time and made a good one!
