Production Notes:

The first Nippon Animation film made directly for theaters.

Based on Yuki Hijiri's 1979 manga in "Shonen King."

The movie was rushed into production on the heels of the success of "Star Wars."

A 10-minute "Cosmic Game" pilot film for this feature was made as early as 1980.

Early computer graphics were incorporated into the film, as well as live-action footage of flames, static and bubbles.

In some areas, the "Superman" title was dropped to avoid conflict with DC Comics.

A video series consisting of three 30-minute episodes, "Locke the Superman: Lord Leon," was released as a follow-up, with Toshiki Hasegawa the sole composer. New characters included Jugo and Flora.

"Shin Sekai Sentai" ("Locke the Superman: New World Battle Team"), a video series of two 50-minute episodes, was released in 1991. New characters included Elena and the Tsar.

A third sequel, the one-shot direct-to-video "Locke the Superman: Mirroring," was released in 2000 and ran for 60 minutes. New character designs by Junichi Hayama were featured. New characters included Cassandra/Neon.

Alternate Series Titles: "Locke The Superman," "Locke The Superpower," "Star Warriors."
