Production Notes:
Based on the character Mario, who first appeared in the Nintendo game "Donkey Kong."
By coincidence, the film was released the same day as "Running Boy Star Soldier no Himitsu," also based on a video game. The two films were tied for the title of the first anime based on a video game.
A three-part video anime, with the cast of the game, but retelling the fairy tales of Momotaro, Snow White and Rumplestiltskin, appeared in 1989.
Rocky Morton's 1993 live-action film "Super Mario Brothers," starring Bob Hoskins, had a somewhat different plot.
English Titles:
"Uper Mario Brothers" and "Super Mario Brothers Struggle To Rescue Princess Peach."
