Production Notes:
Adapted from Osamu Tezuka's self-published manga adaptations.
Aladdin was modeled after French movie star Jean-Paul Belmondo.
Erotic elements deleted from many modern versions of the Arabian Nights were included in this film.
Tezuka invited several famed novelists (including "Silence" author Shusaku Endo and science-fiction writers Yasutaka Tsutsui and Sakyo Tomatsu) to contribute their vocal talents.
Reportedly, a 100-minute English-dubbed version was made for foreign distribution. This lacked several scenes, including one of sex between Badli and a crocodile, and another involving a lesbian princess.
The original version of this film is said to have run for 150 minutes, thus making it the longest cartoon ever produced.
English Titles:
"Arabian Nights" and "1001 Nights."
