In 1992, What's Opera, Doc? was chosen by the Library of Congress' National Film Preservation Board as one of 25 "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant films" to add to the National Film Registry.
Director Chuck Jones reportedly rushed through some Road Runner cartoons so that he and his crew could put in extra time on this production.
Richard Wagner music includes (in order): Overture ("The Flying Dutchman"), Ride of the Valkyries ("Die Walk?re"), Siegfried's Horn Call ("Ring of The Nibelungs Cycle"), Overture ("Tannh?user"), Bacchanal ("Tannh?user"). "Rienzi" is also incorporated.
Bugs' closing line, as he "comes alive" after appearing to be dead: "Well, what did you expect in an opera, a happy ending?"
Songs: "Merrily We Roll Along" (Charlie Tobias-Murray Mencher-Eddie Cantor), "The Flying Dutchman" (Wagner-arr. Milton J. Franklyn), "Mighty Hunter" (Milton J.
