This has been credited as the first animated film to receive an "X" rating in the United States, although "Fritz the Cat has also been so designated.

This film was a flop in Japan, where it was released just as business at Mushi Productions was being temporarily suspended. Reportedly, animators defecting from this production stole anything that couldn't be nailed down.

Opening scenes set in the future were animated in a reversal from the style of the American TV series "Clutch Cargo While the U.S. series had live mouths on animated faces, "Kureopatora had the scenes shot in live action, with anime faces superimposed on the human actors.
