Adapted from Chikako Urano's 1968 volleyball manga.
This was the first sports anime directed toward a female audience.
Four movies made from re-edited footage were released in 1970.
Directors Fumio Kurokawa and Eiji Okabe and writer Haruya Yamazaki teamed up in 1977 for "Ashite e Attack!" ("Attack on Tomorrow"), a TV series designed to capitalize on Japan's recent volleyball World Cup successes.
