Adapted from Chikako Urano's 1968 volleyball manga.

This was the first sports anime directed toward a female audience.

Four movies made from re-edited footage were released in 1970.

Directors Fumio Kurokawa and Eiji Okabe and writer Haruya Yamazaki teamed up in 1977 for "Ashite e Attack!" ("Attack on Tomorrow"), a TV series designed to capitalize on Japan's recent volleyball World Cup successes. Featuring the character Mimi, this volleyball-themed series was much less successful and ran for only 23 episodes.

Foreign Language Titles: "Les Attaquantes" (French) and "Mila Superstar" (German).

Alternate Series Titles: "アタック No. 1" and "Attack Number One."
