This TV series ran for 26 episodes.
Based on a 1967 manga by Osamu Tezuka, which was canceled early.
The series was inspired partly by Sanpei Shirato's 1967 movie "Ninja Bugeicho" ("Manual of Ninja Martial Arts").
The name of Dororo, a girl thief, is baby talk for "dorobo," the Japanese word for "thief."
Despite the title, the series focused on Hyakki-maru, Dororo's companion. The series was renamed "Dororo and Hyakki-maru," starting at Episode 14.
Originally, Tezuka planned to make the series in color and even made a color pilot. However, Fuji TV only allowed low budgets, forcing the series to be made in black and white.
