Sony Pictures' first computer-animated feature film.
Released in IMAX 3D simultaneously with its premiere in conventional theatres.
Sony Pictures Animation had developed this film and several other pictures simultaneously. However, said Sony Pictures Digital president Yair Landau, "Open Season" was chosen as its first feature because the story and characters were the first to gel.
This movie was inspired by the work of syndicated cartoonist Steve Moore ("In the Bleachers").
According to Moore, the film's "location" is drawn to look like Idaho. "I called the town Timberline, but it's really a combination of Ketchum and McCall," said Moore, a Boise resident. The film was inspired by articles that Moore read about animals that live around Ketchum and McCall.
