The original black and white cartoon has been colorized.
This marked William Costello's last regular performance in a theatrical Popeye cartoon (he did some fill-in work as Popeye's voice on two later films- The Spinach Overture (1935) and A Clean Shaven Man (1936)- but was not considered back for the part full time). Costello, whose fame as the voice of the spinach-scarfing seafarer went to his head, asked for a vacation in the middle of "You Gotta Be A Football Hero"'s production. This was more than Paramount could stand, and Costello was unceremoniously dumped, making way for the reign of Jack Mercer.
