Parodying MGM's slogan "Ars Gratia Artis" ("Art for Arts Sake"), the Mother Goose logo has the Pig Latin phrase "ERTZNAY TO OUYAY" ("Nertz to You!" or "Nuts to You!").
In the Old King Cole sequence, Joe Penner gives the king Donald Duck. This is a reference to Penner's catchphrase "Wanna buy a duck?"
The Three Men in a Tub are Charles Laughton in his role of Captain Bligh from Mutiny on the Bounty, Spencer Tracy in his role of Manuel from Captains Courageous, and Freddie Bartholomew in his title role from Little Lord Fauntleroy.
W.C. Fields portrays Humpty Dumpty, which he had done in the 1933 movie Alice in Wonderland. He's bothered by Charlie McCarthy; the two were regular opponents on Edgar Bergen's radio show.
Greta Garbo says "I want so much to be alone," a variation of a line often attributed to her.
Edna May Oliver, Mae West and ZaSu Pitts appear as a singing trio in the musical finale. Some sources identify the center character as Joan Blondell, not West.
