Due to the cost and poor box-office of this film, it didn't break even until 1994.
The film was adapted by LA Hero, which was bought out during production and converted to the American division of Manga Entertainment.
A dubbed version, "Star Quest," was released in 1987 by Go East, which rearranged some scenes and changed some names. Reportedly, this version was so bad that it was hidden away after its ill-fated Los Angeles premiere.
A sequel, "Blue Uru," was promised, but has appeared only in the form of a Gainax video game so far.
