Cartoon Production Information:

After the success of the 1984 film Ghostbusters, a cartoon adaptation was inevitable. With most of the characters from the movie appearing in this series (though in slightly altered formóRay was a bit chunkier and Egon now sported a blond coif), it did seem "real" to many fans of the film. The ghostbustersóPeter, Egon, Ray, and Winstonówere all back and once again fighting a bevy of other-worldly creatures with the help of their secretary, Janine, and Slimer the ghost, now a mischievous friend rather than the foe he was in the movie.

The series was so successful that it went into daily syndication in 1987. The next year, the title was changed to Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters. The popular Slimer now had his own segments, and the format had expanded to an hour. In 1989, the boys got their own prime-time special, with The Halloween Door.

After the first season, Dave Coulier (Full House) took over for Lorenzo Music (the animated Garfield) as the voice of Peter. At the same time, Edward L. Jones replaced Arsenio Hall as the voice of Winston.

The show is not to be confused with the live-action seventies show, The Ghost Busters, or its 1980's cartoon counterpart. Those Filmation series actually had the rights to the "Ghostbusters" name, hence the "Real" addition to this cartoon's title.
