Title card reads: "W'ere On Our Way To Rio." The opening and (possibly) closing titles are on curtains. Different Popeye theme music is heard in the opening graphics.
In a censored scene cut from prints in release today, Popeye says, "Senorita, I don't do no Sambo dancin'." (This line has since been restored.)
This is the last cartoon in which Dave Barry supplies the voice of Bluto. Starting in the next cartoon, Jackson Beck would permanently do the voice for Bluto.
The voice for Olive Oyl is unknown as it is not Margie Hines or Mae Questel who voiced Olive in this film.
Popeye ends up wearing Olive's clothes.
Borrows a bit of material from Kickin' The Conga Round (1942).
Made during World War II when the US was pushing for a strong good neighbor policy with South America. (Walt Disney himself would make an extended tour of South America.)
