This TV series ran for 26 episodes.
In 1978, a second series of 25 episodes was released. Osamu Dezaki directed a 1979 theatrical version, which was based on this series with additional animation.
In 1988, another movie, "Aim for the Ace 2," was released. That year, there was also a 12-part video series directed by former designer Akio Sugino. Dezaki directed some episodes, also making some storyboards under the pseudonym Makura Saki. Future "Sailor Moon" actress Konoto Mitsuishi had her first anime role in a bit part as a neighbor in a scene set in New York.
"Gunbuster" offered a science-fiction spoof, subtitled "Aim for the Top." An erotic parody, "Aim for the A," appeared in the "Tales Of..." collection.
