Part live-action, part animated.
This TV series originally ran for 52 episodes; the American version cut that to twenty-six.
"Shin Maple Town Monogatari: Palm Town Hen" (1987), a sequel, was directed by former lead animator Hiroshi Shidara and ran for 50 episodes. Only Patty Rabbit and Lolly Rabbit remained of the original characters; new characters included Nurse Jane.
Each of these series had a "movie" spinoff, the first (Maple Town Monogatari) running for 24 minutes and the second (Shin Maple Town Monogatari - Home Town Hen) running for 30. Both "movies" were apparently re-edited TV episodes shown theatrically as part of holiday multiple bills.
