Production Notes:

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the legendary series Dragon Ball Z, show creator and acclaimed Japanese manga artist Akira Toriyama, along with Toei Animation Co. Ltd. and Shueisha Inc. created Doragon Boru Kai (Dragon Ball Z Kai) in which the Dragon Ball Z story is retold to more closely follow Toriyama's original tale about a brave young warrior named Goku. A project personally overseen by Toriyama, Dragon Ball Z has been re-edited and remade using the latest in digital technology, including a full HD-re-mastering of the original film. The full frames were reformated to 16:9 Widescreen. Through digital image processing, the image was made more vibrant. All accumulated grime, damage and noise remaining on the original series master film is removed, making the image much clearer for broadcast in HD.

Dragon Ball Kai includes a complete re-recording of the dialog by most of the original Japanese voice cast, as well as completely new sound design with updated sound effects. The opening and ending themes are completely new. Takayoshi Tanimoto performs the series' new opening and closing themes, "Dragon Soul" and "Yeah! Break! Care Break!". This new opening and closing credits have newly animated appearances by Frieza, Zarbon, Dodoria, The Ginyu Force, Nappa, Vegeta, and Raditz. There's also a new artwork clip after every intermission.

The Garlic Jr. Saga was dropped from Doragon Boru Kai. This story arc originally ran from episodes 108 to 117.

The "Kai" in the series' name means "updated," "modified," or "altered." Interestingly, despite the series being only a directors cut of Dragon Ball Z, the Z has been completely removed from the title in the Japanese version.

An English version of this series will be produced by FUNimation to air on Nicktoons as Dragon Ball Z Kai. 4Kids Entertainment announced on April 26, 2010 that Dragon Ball Z Kai will also air on The CW's Toonzai (formerly The CW4Kids) programming block, beginning September 2010.

Alternate Title: "「これが界王拳だ!!限界バトルの悟空VSべジータ」."

English Title: "This Is The Kaioken!! A Battle To The Limit: Goku Vs Vegeta."

Alternate Series Titles: "ドラゴンボール改 「カイ」," "Dragon Ball Kai," "Dragon Ball Revised."
