CGI animation with live action.

Live-action photography began filming in New Zealand in December 2009.

Release date is that of Netherlands premiere; general release in the United States is December 17, 2010.

"Journey to the Center of the Earth" director Eric Brevig was announced to replace original director Ash Brannon in November 2009. Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia were replaced as writers by Brad Copeland earlier in the year.

A 3-D version will also be released.
