Alternate Titles: "メトロポリス" and "Metoroporisu."

Based on Osamu Tezuka's original 1949 manga.

Although Tezuka had not seen Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" when he wrote the original manga, he had seen a picture of its robot Maria, which he placed into his story.

I'm not sure if there is any deliberate connection to the 1920s Fritz Lang film other than title, but this movie stands out on its own regardless.
