Cartoon Summary:

Art Deco-style fun animation. The premise is the wedding of two department store dummies. When bride and groom mannequins come to life in a store window (via the aid of an elfish cupid), they immediately break into a catchy Depression-era ditty, "Getting Chummy With a Dummy Like You." No sooner does the couple break into a rotoscoped dance than the entire department store comes alive as everyone -- er, everything -- gets ready for a midnight wedding. Classic Ub Iwerks animation is on view as pianos sing, lamps dance, vacuum cleaners play bagpipe music and every store item races to attend the nuptials. Everything that could possibly be given a face and hands gets into the act.

Merry Mannequins is a remake of sorts of
SKELETON DANCE made eight years before for Walt Disney. In this case, store mannequins come to life and dance in a rubber hose animation style similar to the Disney landmark. It is interesting that for this period...  (read more)
