Cartoon Summary:

A mean old magpie is headed south for the winter. He sees Chirpy Canary relaxing in a cage. The greedy, lazy magpie tells Chirpy how great it is to go south and how awful the little cage is. Chirpy starts south. Chirpy is free as a bird in a world of cats and trouble, while the magpie takes over the cage. Chased by a big hawk, Chirpy gets mixed in with geese and a hunter's gunfire. His wings ice over, and he comes flying to the ground. Meanwhile, the magpie is relaxing in the "awful" cage eating peanuts and reading the Police Gazette. See the feathers fly when Chirpy and his bride try to dispossess the magpie.
