Cartoon Summary:

The Freedom Fighters learn from King Acorn's message of the existence of the Deep Power Stones, two little rocks that can generate incredible power or great explosive destruction, depending on which way they are joined. Unfortunately, Robotnik learns of this, too. Soon, both parties set out for an expedition to Drood Henge, the hiding place of the Stones. After Sonic tricks Robotnik by pretending to destroy on of the stones, Sonic reveals that it was Tails' plan and Tails became an official Freedom Fighter, though he doesn't get any bigger roles in the following episodes.
