Flebus is a little minimally-drawn friendly fellow whom everyone loves. Everyone loves him and he loves everyone. That is, until one day a new character named Rudolph comes to town. Despite Flebus' best efforts to make friends with Rudolph by offering him a flower, doing tricks or even giving him a fish, Rudolph bonks him on the head consistently and insists he hates him. Flebus starts having bad dreams, his world is turned upside down because, until now, "everyone loves Flebus". That is, everyone except Rudolph. When Flebus has had enough he seeks out a Freudian psychiatrist who listens to Flebus' lament silently and when the troubled character asks "Doc, why does Rudolph hate me?" the shrink has a stock answer: "The trouble vit yoo Felbus...yoo awe neurotic!" No sooner does Flebus leave the psychiatrist's office than Rudolph shows up at the doctor's door himself. He gets on the couch and tells the doctor that despite all of the nice things Flebus has tried to do for him.."Why do I hate Flebus?" The answer comes: "The touble vit yoo Rudolph...you awe neurotic". Flebus and Rudolph soon become best friends because they now have a common bond. They are neurotic! This is a great classic cartoon whose satirical presentation of the post-war love affair with psychoanalysis to define normalcy is brilliant.
