Worst Musical Score ever!. 2 out of 5 stars

Reviewed by: The Rage, November 20, 2011

Just saw "Cricket on the Hearth" 1967 for the first time today on the "THIS" side channel many over-the-air stations use as digital "filler". The musical numbers were SOOOO bad, just rambling about smaltzy lyrics and melodies, albeit sung by pretty decent talent.
I survived it, even given the fact Rankin-Bass, like Hanna-Barbera, had basically given the art of traditional cell-animation a bad name, the hurky-jurky shot on 3's motion (Meaning to the uninformed, to save time and money, the animation camera operator took atleast 3 shots of each action gel or picture, instead of 1-on-1, one picture/gel drawn for 24 frames per second.
Okay, past that...This was just SOOOO freakin' bad...

It didn't suprise me that Danny Thomas was the producer...Heh, I loved the man and his daughter for their support of St.Judes Christian Hospital, but as my Dad used to say, "Danny Thomas just stinks!" (as a comedian, as an actor, as a singer)...I thought the man was okay, at age 8, but alot of conservative, Southerners didn't like him..Perhaps because he was Lebanese...My Dad thought Jimmy Durante' sucked too but draw from that what you may..

It was the later-part of the 1960's though SO I guess we were all supposed to be "tuned-in" to what it all meant and enjoy the corn-ball movie..

I gave it a 2 and not a 1 simply because Thomas made sure it did include a song talking about the 1st Christmas and why that's important..
