Transylvania 6-5000 5 out of 5 stars

Reviewed by: Annie 53, October 19, 2014

The eighties movie version of Transylvania 6-5000, is blown right out of the water by the animated original, starring Bugs Bunny! In my sixty years I have never seen a Bugs Bunny cartoon that I didn't love and am not sure how this one got by me.

Today my son talked me into watching the later movie; with all of its talented performers I kept hoping it would get better but was disappointed. While searching for info on the internet, I became aware of this little gem's existence and had to watch it.

As a regular blood donor and also a lab technician who spent many years collecting blood samples (being called a vampire), I especially enjoyed the selection of titles from which Bugs chose the spell book.

My one regret is that the cartoon was not just a bit longer.

favorite 10 out of 5 stars

This is truly one of my favorites of all time.
Now if someone could convince Warner Bros. to release all of these shorts instead of releasing one box set every 3 years we'd be in buisness.
At this rate I'll be 70 before this one comes out.

Overlooked

This is definitely one of my favourites and it kills me that it isn't mentioned more often. Count Bloodcount is a great foil for Bugs and it's a shame he wasn't used again. The part that gets me every time is where Bugs tells him "Sure, Doc but I don't want a room, I just want a telephone" and the Count grabs him by his head and says "rest first, telephone tomorrow" and whisks him away always makes me laugh. And as mentioned in other reviews, the hocus pocus/abracadabra duel is a classic. "Newport News" "Walla Walla Washington". Great stuff right through to the end where Bugs grows bat ears and flies home.

Only Chuck Jones could have made this cartoon work as well as it did. Truly a genius.

This one scares my 4-year old, but makes me laugh hard. It is a classic example of humour based on laughing at ones fears. Imagine Dracula being made a fool of by a rabbit!
