Cartoon Comments:

Who Killed Who? 8 out of 5 stars

Nice film noir spoof!

Here's a typically wry, inventive offering from Tex Avery -- a spoof of film-noir whodunits with loads of those post-modern self-referential touches and some surreal cartoon effects. The action takes place in a haunted mansion, with a detective running about in pursuit of a killer. Along the way he runs into various spooks and mysteries. My favorites are the traditional ghosts (especially the red one -- "Im', RED Skeleton," he proudly announces, referrring to the popular TV personality of the time). There's also a terrific scene where the detective opens a closet door and out falls an endless series of bound and gagged butlers -- cool! The cartoon is framed by "live" sequences of the cartoonist (is that Tex himself?) --- who turns out to be the culprit.
