Fury, Part 1 6 out of 5 stars

Reviewed by: lymang, April 15, 2002

The Justice League is in full swing, and this first part of a two parter is no exception. The characters continue to develop, with each adventure seeming to focus on one or two of the primary characters. This two parter focuses mainly on Wonder Woman. Aresia, a misguided Amazonian, takes over Lex Luthor's old gang, and proceeds to take on the Justice League (and the city!) to achieve her goals. Just what those goals are is unclear until the very end of the episode, but it IS clear that Aresia herself is a match for any one member of the Justice League, including Supes himself. What is also clear is that Batman remains one of the most valuable and consistently smart members of the JL. Not only does he SINGLE-HANDEDLY defeat the gang Aresia is with, but he continues to fight on in the face of an unknown illness. All this and no super strength, no invulnerability, etc. Still, the episode does focus on Wonder Woman, and we begin to see more and more the chinks in her Amazonian armor. She actually pauses and gives thought to Hawkgirl/woman's phrase "Don't knock it till you've tried it.." which refers to men. The cliffhanger is suitably dramatic as Batman and Hawkgirl/woman realize something about what is going on.
